Review: The Imperfected’s single “Need You Here Tonight” – Release date February 28, 2025

The leader of a band is often the front man, the singer, for the group. Sometimes, it is the guitarist who takes center stage. It is rare that the bassist steps up as the man in charge of a group’s activities. That is what The Imperfected have done, and, along the way, they’ve delivered a thumping new tune in “Need You Here Tonight.”

Phoenix, AZ’s Chris Catero has been on the stage and behind the board for several years. Previously, the multi-instrumentalist Catero played alongside guitarist Marty Friedman and “Wild” Mick Brown from Dokken, but he has also stepped up for other musical alliances. That is what Catero has done with The Imperfected, creating an alliance where he can collaborate with different artists and create different sounds.

For “Need You Here Tonight,” Catero partnered with a compatriot from the Phoenix music scene, vocalist Matt Harris, for what Catero called an “Alice in Chains meets Big Country” moment. “It’s kind of how I see it in vibe at least,” Catero says. “It has some serious light and shade juxtaposing in a not overly predictable way.”

Catero and Harris have certainly produced a thumper that goes back to a Nineties grunge groove. Catero’s smooth yet powerful bass work is excellently amplified by Harris’ soaring vocals, delivering an impactful performance throughout the song and video. It is a fantastic appetizer for what Catero says is a series of singles that are forthcoming from The Imperfected, with a potential “project” hitting in late Spring/early Summer.
