Killswitch Engage (KSE) arrived at the Live 20 at GLC Live at 20 Monroe, Grand Rapids, for the first time since COVID struck the United States and shut down concerts. They were the last band to play 20 Monroe Live in Grand Rapids before lockdown began. The band’s return was nothing short of energetic and powerful. They played many well-known hits such as, “This Fire,” “Rose of Sharon,” “End of Heartache,” and many more. The band came in with an excellent supporting cast of bands, all hailing from Texas and all with different sounds. Fit For a King brought a sound akin to the Warped Tour days and with energy to boot.

Kublai Khan TX came in with the fury of a raging hurricane, bringing more energy than a teen with his first energy drink. They whipped the crowd into a fervor as they played to a packed crowd. The band created a memorable night for many who had never seen them before.

Frozen Souls created a unique experience for fans as they lit the room with brutal riffs, harsh vocals, and magic at the gathering. At mid-set time, the band had the idea to toss out magic and gather card packs into the crowd while participants played with each other on the floor in the middle of the mosh pit. It was definitely the first experience I had ever encountered, as I am sure it was for many concertgoers at this venue.

Now, back to KSE, man, how do I describe them? They are just amazing and they show why many consider them elders of the metalcore genre with powerful riffs and beautiful melodies. They commanded everyone in the venue and made it a unique time. Jesse went into the crowd to sing with the fans, allowing members to sing with the band and connect with many of those against the rails. I recommend seeing them. It’s a show you don’t want to miss.
