Review: Taz Taylor Band – Lonely I Ride single Release date: March 7, 2025
Is classic rock gone? Like all those ‘gone soon’ predictions by rock critics, this one is off. Again. Sure, some genres are more in vogue than others at one point, but what we know as classic rock, the one in vein of guitar & melody focused bands like Van Halen, Rainbow, Journey got here and seem to be firm at staying.
Keeping on that sound alive are San Diego’s Taz Taylor Band, led by British/American guitarist Taz Taylor whose forthcoming album The Other Side of Midnight (May 2025), includes a shoo-in power ballad “Lonely I Ride,” the bands lead-in single from the album.
The song has all the key elements of a good power ballad – a strong melody, good vocals and some excellent guitar licks from Taylor. Sometimes all you need. And while most of their former albums (and singles) included guest male vocalists, for this song they went for a female guest – Laura K. Vreeland, who does an excellent job here. Maybe an excellent introduction to the new album.
