VENUE: The Forum, London–January 27, 2016–Temperance Movement with The Sheepdogs
The legendary Kentish Town music venue The Forum, now branded with the increasingly ubiquitous O2 prefix, was jam packed for the last of the current run of UK dates of blues-rockers The Temperance Movement before they head off to mainland Europe.
Canadian band The Sheepdogs opened with their north-of-the-border take on southern blues-rock reminiscent of an amalgam of early Doobies, Allman Brothers and Lynard Skynard. If it wasn’t for the sea of mobile phone screens and the lack of cigarette smoke it could have easily been the 1970s, but with more temperance and less movement.
In contrast, the headliners stormed the stage, opening with a rocking version of Ziggy Stardust, by way of tribute to DB. Frontman Phil Campbell was very much in the spotlight with his gravelly vocals and volatile, prancing stage presence, reminiscent of Jagger and Michael Hutchence at their best, all fueled by the driving guitars and a solid backline. More movement, less temperance.
