Rock At Night’s BAND OF THE MONTH
Rock At Night had the pleasure of speaking with musician/songwriter Nathaniel Shepherd of alt-funk-rock band G2P, which is going on tour in the southeast and out west commencing on April 8, 2016. It is difficult to really describe their brand of music but Shepherd likes to call it “happy slam dance music.” The band was formed in 2011 in Tampa, Florida and has opened for the likes of Saliva, Ten Years, The Revivalists.
During the interview Shepherd described 311 and Green Day as big influences. The band’s song “Walk Away” has received national airplay, charting in the Top 5 on Independent Music Network, Top 40 on National Radio Hits and New Music Weekly, and the Top 200 on FMQB. After the song “Animals” became popular on ReverbNation, G2P gained a production contract with Capitol USA.
During the interview, Shepherd discussed the origin of the acronym “G2P”; the upcoming audition for “American’s Got Talent” show in Orlando, Florida; the background of the band’s formation and unique sound; the type of equipment and rig he favors; and the band’s upcoming tour which starts in Daytona, Florida and makes its way out west toward Oklahoma and Texas.
Shepherd noted the next gig is February 27th at The Brass Mug in Tampa, Florida which will be a music showcase. Music executives will be in attendance that night so this will be a more swanky affair.
