Toseland is an up and coming rock band from the UK. The band was founded by singer James Toseland who is two-time Superbike World Champion. However, music has always been his passion. He started learning to play the piano as a 6-year-old kid and had private lessons until he was 16. He had to stop taking lessons because he was gaining more and more success in his second passion – motorbikes. In 2004 and 2007 he won the Superbike World Championship.
In March 2011 during a test-drive, James suffered an accident which resulted in a broken wrist. Due to the damage, he had to give up his motorcycle career later the same year. Reflecting back to his first love, music, he began working with Toby Jepson (Little Angels). They wrote an album packed with classic rock songs and ballads called Renegade and it made it to the A-list of British radio stations.
James Toseland, who is married to great singer Katie Melua, asked his brother-in-law Zurab Melua to join his band. In September 2013, guitarist Ed Bramford later joined them. With Roger Davies on bass and Joe Yoshida on the drums, Toseland are now on their way to conquer the music business. They played the Download Festival in the UK, which was an amazing kick-off!
Members: James Toseland (keyboards, vocalsl); Zurab Melua (guitars); Ed Bramford (guitar); Rodger Davis (bass); and Joe Yoshida (drums).
When Toseland recently supported Black Stone Cherry on their European Tour in Germany Rock At Night had the amazing opportunity to talk to charismatic James Toseland. Toseland discussed the band’s current tour through Europe and the UK, including their support for Black Stone Cherry; how the band had 3 ½ days to prepare for the tour after Theory of a Deadman’s cancellation; the making of the second album Cradle to Rage with a new line-up and a German label; his love of playing piano, even through his competitive motorcycling years; how he focused on songwriting and music after a serious motorcycle accident; how he met his wife singer/songwriter Katie Melua, who shares his love of rock music, like Queen; working with his brother-in-law guitarist Zurab Melua; and the fan and media’s acceptance of a sportsman entering the music world.
**Cradle to Rage will be released March 11, 2016
