Venue: Mannheim Arena-March 19, 2016-Scorpions-Return to Forever Tour
Rock At Night was very excited to see classic rock and metal band Scorpions perform at Mannheim Arena on March 19, 2016. The concert wasn’t completely sold out but with around 11, 000 people in the arena, it was certainly full of screaming fans awaiting. Some had been waiting there for a long time to get a place in the front row. Though you could imagine that the fans would be mature or the age of the band itself, but there were plenty of very young people who obviously appreciated classic rock music.
The band opened the show with the sound of a loud siren followed by waves of smoky fog. Then, the sound of the band slowly playing “Sting in the Tail” was heard, as it increased with intensity. The band members appeared to be very energetic and motivated, often interacting with the fans and making eye contact with the photographers in the pit. Closing their first song they greeted the audience saying that they were” happy to be here again”.
The second song was “Make it Real”, which included some whirling guitar action by the two guitarists running along the runway stage to the very front, getting close to their fans. As their third song, they played “Is there Anybody There”. All the time you really could feel the connection between the band and their fans even though you’d actually think with such a big fan base that wouldn’t even be possible. By the end of the song the singer threw some drumsticks into the crowd causing some really enthusiastic shouting by the crowd. Coming from a band having their 50th year anniversary, you know that they are really routined in what they do, but also you can feel the fun they still have and they transfer to their fans as well.
Overall, the Scorpions put on an entertaining show and I recommend catching them on the Return to Forever Tour. Please check out some photo highlights below:
**Fan favorite of the evening–“Wind of Change”–lots of fan singing which gave everyone goosebumps.
