Venue: JUZ, Andernach, Germany–Kamelot, Serenity, and Aeverium- April 22nd, 2016
The JUZ in Andernach is a small club in the middle west of Germany and was really crowded on Friday night. When first opener Aeverium started, one could already feel an eager anticipation in the audience. The first band of the evening, Averium, which was founded in Viersen, Germany in 2013, played with unbridled enjoyment–and the audience clearly loved them. This six-piece is duly an auspicious newcomer we will surely be hearing about in the future.
The second support band Serenity is from Austria and played a scorching set. They did a fabulous job! What a great voice singer Georg Neuhauser has–it is gentle and rich but also powerful. In combination with a good stage presence Serenity brought the now jam-packed venue to full speed. The atmosphere was short-lived before ascending to a boiling point, also literally. The temperature at JUZ rose up to over 45 degrees, I think. As a surprise they also brought a female co-singer Natascha Koch (Tasha) for their third song. Her voice blended well with the band but I just wondered why they wanted a co- singer. Anyway, the audience extolled Serenity with well-deserved praise.
Now, for the headliner Kamelot…as soon as they appeared the audience was over the moon– singing and clapping along to a totally charismatic band. I have rarely seen a band smiling on stage almost the whole time. It looks as if everybody–the band and audience–were having a very, very good time. I don’t want to talk about setlists and performances (which were simply awesome and just speak for themselves) but the atmosphere during the show was amazing.
What is interesting is if you look at Kamelot’s website, their music is described as “…running the gambit of dark and melancholy to uplifting and melodic elements…” This is ironic because on stage they appeared friendly, likeable, and open.
Everybody that evening seemed to be simply happy, even though the atmosphere in the venue felt like a big sauna. Also, worth mentioning is that Kamelot is not only known for a colorful performance on stage but also for a huge light show. The whole event was a pleasure for the ears and eyes.
I, myself, was suffering from lack of rest and a very bad cold, but even with a terrible headache, I enjoyed every minute of the show that night. If you want to have a good night out, go and see a Kamelot show. Highly recommended.
