UPDATE – June 10, 2016
YOUR CALLS TODAY CAN HELP END DECLAWING IN NY
|
THE NY LEGISLATION SESSION IS ENDING IN A FEW DAYS. WE MUST ACT NOW. As we have told you, we are working hard to pass legislation in New York, A.1297/S.5084, that would make New York the first state in the nation to ban the inhumane practice of declawing. The New York State Veterinary Medical Society is working to kill this bill.
We need your help…Today, if possible
Please take a moment to make quick, polite phone calls. Simply tell the staff member who answers the phone:
“My name is _____, and I strongly support Bill A1297/S5084 to prohibit cat declawing. Please bring this bill out of Committee for a vote. Thank you!”
MAKE YOUR FIRST CALL TO:
Assemblyman William Magee (Committee Chair – Assembly)
(518) 455-4807
AND ADDITIONAL CALLS TO:
Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan
(518) 455-2071
Senator John Bonacic (Orange, Sullivan, Ulster, Delaware Counties)
518-455-3181
Senator John DeFrancisco (Onondaga County – Syracuse)
(518) 455-3511
Senator Marty Golden (Brooklyn)
518) 455-2730
Senator Kemp Hannon (Long Island)
518-455-2200
Senator Joe Robach (Monroe County – Rochester)
(518) 455-2909
If you are a constituent residing in their NY state district…PLEASE TELL THEM!
That’s it!! The Paw Project appreciates your help to move this important bill in the right direction! Please forward this email to any other compassionate person you may know!

To learn more about declawing, please read the Official Declawing Fact Sheet, which has been presented to the NY state legislators.
New York state Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal and New York Senator Joseph Griffo introduced, A.1297/S.5084, to ban cat declawing. The bill would ban the amputation procedure unless it is done to treat medical conditions affecting the cat. The Paw Project is grateful to Assemblywoman Rosenthal and Senator Griffo and is proud to have introduced the declaw issue to Assemblywoman Rosenthal and to have helped in organizing support for the bill. We are fortunate to have the help and support of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association (HSVMA), and Ethical Veterinary, over 125 NY veterinarians, and dozens of rescue and adoption groups to pass the bill.
Here is the HSUS call to action: http://action.humanesociety.org/site/MessageViewer?em_id=111866.0&dlv_id=0
Cats around the world thank you!
