VENUE: Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen, London – CuT open for Saint Agnes on 17 June 2016
Like the ancestral axe that has been in the family for more than century, despite having five new heads and ten new handles, it is still the same axe, so it seems to be with London band CuT. Totally unrecognisable, both aurally and visually, from the band I saw 18 months previously, I kept wondering if it was in fact the same band, if only in name.
They were playing the opening slot for London faves, Saint Agnes, who were releasing their latest single Sister Electric. Playing an early set on a Friday evening anywhere in London is going to be a tough audience draw, and even more so in the hipster Hoxton/Shoreditch area. Nevertheless, CuT unleashed a sonic torrent of distorted guitars to a discerning audience, showing their quintessential space-rock sound was still very much alive.
