By Rick Slagter, Rock At Night Groningen Correspondent, The Netherlands
Venue: Welcome to the Village Festival-Leeuwarden, The Netherlands
What happens when you blend some remarkable musicians with garage rock, funk and psychedelic soul, and put a guru in front of it? You get a hell of a show, from the Berlin based King Khan & the Shrines. Its hard to describe what happens on stage, it would take a book. Sometimes you think you’re watching to scenes in a sanatorium. But take care: all this musical madness is the gift box of lyrics with some critical notes about you, me and the world we create.
King Khan & the Shrines are touring all over the world for more than two decades. At this moment they’re doing Europe. RAN caught the band at the festival Welcome to the Village, Leeuwarden, The Netherlands.
King Khan & the Shrines is: King Khan (v, g), Simon Wojan (tp); Ben Ra (ts), Fred Brissaud (bs), Till Tim (g), Fredovitch (o), Riddiman (b), John Boy Adonis (dr), Ron Streeter (perc)
