Bette Midler’s show–Beautiful, bawdy, and bodacious

Venue: Amelie Arena in Tampa, Florida–May 11, 2015  “The Divine Intervention Tour”

What can I say about Bette Midler? The woman is a goddess! She rolled into the Amelie Arena, Tampa, Florida on a rainy, evening to play hits from her recent It’s the Girls album.  I often listen to it while road-tripping to put me in an uplifting and nostalgic mood. There are not only songs from 60s girl groups (“Be My Baby,” “Baby It’s You,” “Too Many Fish in the Sea”) but also more recent hits (“Waterfalls”).

Last night the arena was packed with mostly a silver-haired crowd (which Midler jabbed at and reminded us how gorgeous she is).  The crowd has likely followed her colorful career through the years–the bathhouse days to Academy Award nominations.  Bette Midler has won three Grammy Awards, four Golden Globes, three Emmy Awards and a special Tony Award. She is a force of nature!

The set was exquisitely decorated with a colorful flowered background. Midler told her typical hilarious, bawdy jokes and had the audience shrieking in delight. As always, The Devine Miss M had adorable female back-up singers/dancers (“Harlettes”) and a full band for accompaniment.  Although Rock At Night typically covers rock music I wanted to show my appreciation for Bette Midler.
