By Mike McKenney, Rock At Night New England
Venue: Wolf Den @Mohegan Sun Casino, Uncaseville, Connecticut-Thursday, November 30. 2017
For an intimate Thursday night show, Jason “Sundance” Head and his band gave a big performance. Sundance showed of his wide vocal range as well as his terrific guitar work throughout his 18 song set.The son of singer Roy Head, Sundance is known for being a semi-finalist on televisions “American Idol” and going on to win “The Voice” in 2016. It was while he was on “The Voice” that he teamed up with Country superstar Blake Shelton.
Recently wrapping up a tour with his mentor Blake, and now out with his own band that includes Bassist Dropkick Dave Walters (Dropkick Chihuahuas and Flamin Hellcat) and Big Joe Busa (drums), Sundance plays with a confidence and easiness that conveys his “Soul Country” style.
Moving gracefully between songs such as the funky “Motown Blues”, upbeat “Coon Ass” and the soulful “Darling Don’t Go”, there are no tricks or gimmicks employed, it is just pure honest heartfelt music by some excellent musicians, lead by a fantastic voice.
It is obvious that Sundance enjoys bantering with the crowd and he has no shortage of (mostly bad) jokes between songs. His frequent references and gazes to his wife Misty (manager) create poignant moments in his performance that are hard to miss.
Sundance Head is the type of performer who’s personality and style really shines through in his live shows. If his current tour continues through your town, be sure to check him out!
