ALBUM REVIEW:–Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s album Some Loud Thunder–Rock At Night’s opinion: A clap of thunder indeed!
I’m only guessing, but most bands who re-issue 10 year old albums, probably have run out of things to say to the world and are preparing their audience with the inevitable drift into the ‘where the hell did they go’ part of life. Yet, here is a re-issue that stamps heavily on that notion and some. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, have taken their second album, ‘Some loud thunder’, re-mastered it, wiped its arse and sent it back to where it belongs, to you and me. Multi layered, multi faceted and most importantly, honest, it has a character framed by frustration, yet swims in a pool of musical freedom that deliberately and desperately wants to splash about and get noticed.
Listening to each track in no way prepares you for the next and it gives you the feeling of being amongst great friends, all with different views and opinions, all with differing sensibilities , yet all who can live very happily together without a second thought. The texture of the album never wavers and settles very nicely within what it deserves, a second chance at being heard, loved and touched. Ten years is a long time, but for some things, ten years can mature and be kind, and quite definitely this is one occasion that proves that rule.
