When not one, but two Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarists, Dave Mason (Traffic) and Steve Cropper (Booker T. & The MG’s) you know its going to be a special night. The “Rock & Soul Revue” tour unites these two legends for the first time on the road together.
Said Mason who first met Cropper in the early ’70s. “We’ve never shared the stage together but when I got to thinking about who I’d like to play with on a jam-like tour, Steve Cropper was one of the first that came to mind.”
The opening band was the Dave Mason Band itself sans Dave. Tony Patler (keys/vocals), Alvino Bennett, and Johnne Sambataro (guitar/vocals) got things started and were soon joined onstage by the amazing Gretchen Rhodes. Having been part of Mick Fleetwood’s Band for 12 years now, Gretchen sang “Leather and Lace” to perfection, as was her “Chain Of Fools” in a tribute to the late Aretha Franklin. Former Firefall lead singer Johnne Sambataro completed the opening set with Firefall fan favorite “Strange Way”
Following a brief intermission, 1992 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Steve Cropper & 2004 Inductee Dave Mason took the stage beginning with Wilson Pickett’s “In the Midnight Hour”.
Mixed with “Traffic” favorites, “Dear Mr Fantasy”, “The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys”, and “Feeling Alright”, and Booker T. & The MG’s hits “Hip Hug Her”, and “Green Onions”, were familiar hits spanning the last 5 decades. Eddie Floyds “Knock on Wood”, Blind Faith’s “Can’t Find My Way Home”, and Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower” each featured Gretchen Rhodes incredible vocals. Topping off the night of Rock & Soul were “Shake, Rattle, and Roll”, and “Soul Man”.
Relive this great nostalgic music,(everyone knows every song), with Dave Mason and Steve Cropper on their “Rock & Soul” tour as it continues through October.
