General Election where women were allowed to vote) there is a distinct lack of social progress. The Pankhurst Centre/Manchester Women’s Aid are working tirelessly to correct this without government funding. Objectification within Popular Music is part of the problem. ‘I’m Real’ addresses the smothering nature of a controlling relationship, ‘I Don’t Want Your Attentions’ is about sexual harassment in the workplace.

Release Notes

Upbeat and unapologetic this is a double-A-side single raising funds for (and awareness of) The Pankhurst Centre/Manchester Women’s Aid. Why? Because gender equality is not a ‘political viewpoint’ it is a human necessity and in 2018 (100 years since the first UK General Election where women were allowed to vote) there is a distinct lack of social progress. Energetic and catchy music with meaning and purpose.

Band Bio

Formed in Manchester UK in 1989 by John Armstrong (guitars/vocals/songwriting). Underground rock veterans The Speed Of Sound collide a 1960’s influence with ‘The Now’ creating an atom-smashing, DIY, NewWave, NoWave, NuWave, Post-Punk, Power-Pop, Psych-out. The lineup is currently Kevin Roache on bass guitar (since 1993) and

Ann-Marie Crowley on vocals, guitar and percussion (since 2015), plus an assortment of drummers; Anthony ‘Eddy’ Edwards plays on ‘I’m Real / I Don’t Want Your Attentions’. Fiercely independent, The Speed Of Sound exist in spite of The Music Industry, rather than because of it and speak from outside its grasping tentacles.
