Venue: The Narrows Center for the Arts-Fall River, Massachusetts-Friday March 29, 2019
It’s no wonder Cambridge’s own Jon Pousette-Dart, loves to play at The Narrows. Housed in a century’s old factory , its impressive acoustics and quaint seating arrangement keep audiences up close and personal, (some tables are literally a foot off the stage) and proved to be the perfect venue for American Classic/Folk Rock legends The Pousette-Dart Band.
Led by Jon Pousette-Dart (vocals, guitar), and backed by long time members Steve Roues (bass), Jim Chapdelaine (guitar, vocals), and original drummer, Eric Parker, the PDB were one of most sought after bands of the 70’s, touring with virtually everyone from The Byrds, and Billy Joel, to The Eagles and Journey, The Pousette–Dart Band delighted the packed house with songs spanning forty plus years.
Jon and the band played effortlessly all night, having preformed at The Narrows before, they were obviously comfortable in the familiar surroundings when as they hit the stage running and gradually building on textures that would have made Jon’s father and famous American artist, Richard Pousette-Dart proud, throughout their 24 song set.
Long time favorites “Halo” and “Freezing Hot” knitted gracefully with “May You Dance”, and “Look What Love Has Done”.
The hits from the 1977 “Amnesia” album were without a doubt the most popular with the crowd, singing along on “County Line”, and “Yaicha”.
Of course it was the title track “Amnesia” that everyone came to hear and PDB did not disappoint. An infectious tune that plays on in your head long after the band stops playing, “Amnesia” received a rousing ovation from the audience.
It may be easy to overlook the slow rock or easy listening styles that became a safe haven for American poets like Jon Pousette-Dart between the Psychedelic 60’s and the 80’s New Wave, but make no mistake, the talented members of the PDB are righteous players also. While maintaining their lane, the excellent guitar work of Chapdelaine and Pousette-Dart displayed a cohesiveness and restraint that only well-seasoned artist possess.
Steve Roues plays a smooth stand-up bass, and Parker was impeccable on drums all night. If you haven’t seen The Pousette-Dart Band recently, grab a ticket and experience a slice of American music at its best!
