By Mike McKenney, Rock At Night New England
Venue: Greenwich Odeum, East Greenwich, Rhode Island-THE FIXX with Royston Langdon-Saturday, December 7, 2019
Starting off as “The Portraits”, collage friends Cy Curnin and Adam Woods recruited keyboardist Rupert Greenall, and others to form what would eventually become The Fixx. To anyone of the MTV era, the unique sound of The Fixx is instantly recognizable. Cy Curnin’s amazing vocals, Rupert Greenall on keyboards, Jamie West-Oram on guitar, Adam Woods on drums, and bassist Dan K. Brown, played all their hits to a standing room only crowd at the Greenwich Odeum. The iconic songs that helped define a generation, “Saved By Zero”, “Red Skies”, had the entire sold out Odeum on their feet dancing.Curnin proved mega hit “One Thing Leads To Another” is still relevant today, trading leads with the audience.
The Fixx sounded even better than remembered performing “Are We Ourselves”, “I Found You”, and “Stand Or Fall”, as well as all the songs of their 18 song set were performed with the excellence achieved only by a band with the experience of The Fixx.
Since 1979, The Fixx has kept their unmistakable Rock/New Wave sound, with 18 albums. In keeping with the season, The Fixx closed the concert with holiday songs “Do What You Can (Peace on Earth)”, and John Lennon’s Happy Xmas (War is Over) Royston Langdon (lead singer and songwriter for Spacehog) started the night off with his great vocals that culminated in an acoustical version of “In The Meantime”, a huge 1995 Spacehog hit.
