Review: Calum Ingram’s songs “Dancing in the Moonlight” and “Demon Eyes” –Double A Side 7″ vinyl single- Release date July 31, 2020
Rock At Night listened to the Callum Ingram’s two-single release and it was a pleasant surprise. Having no preconceived notion, I assumed the new release was another “run of the mill” rock album. Actually, it was the perfect medication for those summertime blues. Ingram and his cello breathe fresh life into Thin Lizzy’s “Dancing in the Moonlight”, giving it a bouncy and almost reggae feel. The bass line creates a danceable groove which takes me back to the same upbeat feeling I get whenever I listen to Eddy Grant’s “Electric Avenue”. 80s pop, really, which is fine by me.
“Demon Eyes” is really unique because it’s a blues song played with the cello. Unreal. There’s twinkling electric piano accompaniment and kind of a 50s feel. It makes me want to put on a flouncy dress and do the stroll. A really nice touch is the cello solo, played in true blues form.
Callum Ingram’s music is interesting in that he uses a traditional classical music instrument to create uplifting pop music–which is really needed during this unprecedented period of global upheaval. Give his music a whirl!
