Gustaf, a New York post punk band has just released a debut single; the track is called “Mine” and really rocks! The band formed in 2018 and have managed to get a lot of attention by do-it-yourself touring. They have set themselves apart with a reputation for being the most dedicated and hardest working band by their peers.
They have also supported, played and toured with an impressive list; folks like James Chance, Omni, Tropical Fuck Storm, Dehd and Bodega. They even caught the attention of Beck when they played in LA, and he has since called them his “favorite band.” Beck premiered their track on his Twitter feed earlier this month. Check out the band hanging with Beck at his indie-rock mansion!
Vocalist Lydia Gammill explains: “This song is about having a false sense of entitlement. Someone who feels attacked or like they’re being pushed out of their own world and not getting the credit they deserve. Someone with a delusional sense of self whose anger and frustration is humorous like the superintendent in a college frat movie. The opening lines make it seem like the narrator is being criticized by someone else and their retaliation is like “you’ve got to be kidding me, you can’t say that about me! I invented water you punk!” …. sort of.“
Besides Lydia Gammill, the other band members are: Tine Hill on bass, Melissa Lucciola on the drums, Vram Kherlopian on guitar and vocals and Tarra Thiessen on vocals and percussion.
The track came out on Royal Mountain Records (US Girls, METZ, Mac DeMarco, Wild Pink) and was produced by Chris Coady (Beach House, Future Islands, TV On The Radio) and it’s a fantastically off-kilter post-punk track that really tows that line of art-rock. The band is busy working on a studio release.
If you like your music unabashedly fun, punk and danceable, this is the track for you, so check it out! For even more fun, you can also see a set by this band from back in 2018 on Tampa Sessions, CLICK HERE! Rock at Night is waiting for more from this band.
