Beth Quist has been in love with sounds since she was two years old and has married herself in-between and in and out of them; one can envision the wide spaces, curves, arcs and curlicues as her music certainly makes the listener transcend. She is a four-octave soprano and plays piano, keyboards, santour (hammered dulcimer), dumbek, guitar, flute, and various other instruments. Her music is influenced by the sounds from the Balkans, the Middle East, India and the U.S.
Her early favorite pieces of music include: “Batman,” “Star Trek” and “Dr. Zhivago.” “I’m a Little Leopard Prowling Around in Sneakers” was her first musical composition at 8 years of age.
Her lengthy resume includes scoring music for dance, theatre, films and television in addition to working with many notable musicians such as Kitaro and Bobby McFerrin. She has appeared in the latter’s Voicestra since 1997, and appears on his albums “Circlesongs,” “Mouth Music,” and “VOCAbuLarieS.”
She also had a two year contract writing and performing music for Cirque du Soleil’s long running show in Las Vegas titled “KA.” Other musical collaborations include the Geoffrey Castle Band (formerly known as Guarneri Underground), The Motet and Trey Gunn.
Her ethereal interpretation of the Tears for Fears song “Mad World” from their masterpiece album, “Songs from the Big Chair” is spot on and the lyrics to the song are even more timely and appropriate now than they were thirty five years ago. She is currently signed with Magnatune.
