Mississippi MacDonald

London, England’s soul-bluesman Mississippi MacDonald says, “You know, Blues is often misunderstood. It’s not sad music – there’s great humour, great joy and there’s celebration. When the chips are down and it looks like you can’t go on, there’s always something – there’s always a little light shining through. There’s no heartbreak or bad luck that a horn section, a Hammond Organ and a few Albert King licks can’t cure. And that’s what this record is all about.

Mississippi’s upcoming album “Do Right, Say Right” will drop in November 2021. “This record is about resilience,” he says. The single “I Was Wrong” the first single from the album has just been released. “It’s modern; it’s not musical archaeology,” Mississippi continues, “…it’s authentic and celebrates a rich, fantastic tradition. It’s soul-blues, and you’ve got to put your best into it.”

The song starts with a blues hook, organ, horns and percussion and added in is Mississippi’s soulful voice with expressive guitar. The old blues made brand new with newly created music! Mississippi MacDonald has been nominated for the British Blues Awards three times. He has played since he was 11 years old and has toured extensively throughout the US, met the big names including B.B. King. “Do Right, Say Right” will be his seventh studio album and will be released on November 19, 2021. Look for the album review here on Rock at Night as we get closer to that date.

About the single, “I Was Wrong,” Rock at Night says: “This song is mid-tempo, classic blues-soul-rock combo that we here in the south love to hear. Jazzed up and embellished with horns, keys and Mississippi’s soulful voice, backing vocalists, great guitar riffs, this is certainly a teaser for the full length album to come. Take a listen–you will love it!”
