New EP Review: “The Revival”
Release Date: July 30, 2021
The 3 piece Minnesota band Virginia Sweet has just released their debut 5-track EP, “The Revival.” This band began in 2020 during the pandemic and started out as a side project by Jason Dove on vocals and bass, Jason Jump on lead guitar and Ricky Parker on drums forming under their current name and right away started experimenting with new music. After their first live show, the band was no longer a side project but the main one!
The band is influenced by the old Southern Rock standards like the Allman Brothers and Gov’t Mule and are inspired by Classic Rock bands such as Black Sabbath. They play something familiar for their audiences and connect with them through the music. Using powerful vocals and inspiring rhythm and guitar work, makes this band a stand out among music aficionados. Virginia Sweet says “Sharing these musical experiences with fans and the next generation is what we are really all about.”
“One More Time” is a blues-rocker, slow tempo on the verses and then rocking during the choruses. “Little Devil” is a another slow blues-rock song reminiscent of the classic rock of the 70’s with great guitar hooks. “Home of My Own” starts out with thumping bass; this is a classic rock song with some country rock overtones and influences along with powerful instrumentation. “Paradise” is a song about a place that could be real or imagined, great song! “The Revival” sounded epic, like it could be a song as a soundtrack for film with moody themes and imaginary landscapes. Great bass in this one along with the denouement of a bad-ass guitar solo that is echoed towards the end of the song.
Rock at Night says: “Great classic rock here and can’t wait to hear more from this band! These five songs showcase the members’ musical abilities–and they really remind me of some of the finer classic rock bands that came out of the 70’s. This band has got it! Hard to pick a favorite song, all five were stand-outs. Take a listen, you will be amazed!“
