New Album Release: “Down the Rabbit Hole

Release Date: January 7, 2022

The Dollyrots, one of Rock at Night’s favorite punk-pop bands, is releasing a new collection of songs consisting of B-sides, rarities and covers; some songs have been previously released and/or performed and a few of them have been re-recorded. “Down the Rabbit Hole” consists of two CD’s with a dozen songs on each one.

The Dollyrots are comprised of Kelly Ogden and Luis Cabezas. For live performances they are joined by Justin McGrath on drums. The band is rooted in the Tampa Bay area but they have also spent a lot of time in Los Angeles and have toured extensively here in the USA and in Europe. And the band seems to be EVERYWHERE! To hear a daily dose of The Dollyrots be sure to tune in to Kelly’s Sunrise Surprise radio show weekday mornings from 4 AM EST to 8 AM EST on SiriusXM’s Underground Garage on Channel 21. Kelly also voices Stevie Van Zandt’s “Coolest Songs in the World,” a brand new station on SiriusXM — go to Channel 721. Check out www.SiriusXM.com/streaming to learn more.

This recording is a delight and it is definitely the music you need to have playing in order to amp up a lackluster party or to keep you wide awake while on a long morning commute! With hooks galore, this is head-bobbing music with sing along choruses and one toe tapping song after another! What has always attracted me to this band’s music is the fun and positivity.

After listening to the entire double CD recording, every cut is a stand out and had me buzzing around the house at warp speed as I am packing (I am in the process of moving)! Some of my favorites were: the excellent cover of the song “Stay” by Lisa Loeb, a 90’s hit, another cover song “Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves, Florida boy, Tom Petty’s “American Girl,” the band’s mashup of “Da Doo Ron Ron” by the girl band, the Crystals with the song “I Wanna Be Sedated” by the Ramones, “Do You Love Me” by the Contours and made even more popular by the Beatles, “Dancing With Myself” by Billy Idol and “Earth Angel” by the Starlighters. I love all the band’s originals but my favorites on this collection are: “Be My Leia,” “Super Mega Ultraviolet,” “Get Radical” and “Ruby Soho.”

About “Down the Rabbit Hole” Kelly says, It’s so exciting to have all these tracks in one place! Sometimes a song just doesn’t fit on an album but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a great song. Putting together this project also made me reflect on the career we’ve had so far and I’m so grateful for all of it. Our band turns 20 this year and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than a retrospective of all the rarities.

Rock at Night says: “”What a fun album and even though these songs were left off of the previous albums, these are still some of the best cuts ever! I enjoyed every track and if you love pop-punk, motivational and positive music, this collection of songs is for you–this is some of the best music of this genre and you will not be able to keep from moving and singing along! If you are not yet a fan of The Dollyrots, this album just might be the one to convert you!
