Review: Bruce Sudano’s album Ode to a Nightingale – Purple Heart Recording Company
Being a creative force behind some big names in music can be both a blessing and a curse. Bruce Sudano is a songwriter who composed for such huge names like Michael Jackson, Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire and his late wife, Donna Summer.
At the same time, he was in a band Brooklyn Dreams in his own right, operates his own record label (Purple Heart Recording Company), and will play live almost anywhere – from a house party to a sold-out stadium.
Of course, it is a great privilege to be able to have big stars pick up on your songs, but at the same time a show of big talent, that might not be fully recognized or even known by a wider audience.
You see, Sudano is not only able to come up with a perfect pop/rock/soul/country song but is an excellent singer in his own right.
That is why his latest EP/mini album Ode to a Nightingale is an almost perfect showcase, not only of Sudano’s songwriting capabilities, but that he is a great performer in his own right.
As could be expected from such a versatile songwriter, through the seven tracks here, Sudano covers the full ground from country (“Cosmic Ride”), soul (“Fatal Love”), pop (title track), true singer songwriter stuff CSN&Y style (“In a Shadowland”) to anywhere else you please that you can cover in seven tracks.
Couple that with some superb musical backing, Ode to a Nightingale really shows why Sudano was a songwriting choice for so many big names.
