Album Review: “Black and Gold”
Release Date: August 19, 2022
This band’s fifth studio album, “Black and Gold” rocks us relentlessly and these young women never seem to tire with constant touring, recording and creating new music! Their previous album dropped last year. They have been around since 2010, had a few changes to their lineup and have had a lot of time to craft and perfect their performances and their music.
The band is: Guernica Mancini on vocals, Filippa Nässil on guitar, Emlee Johansson on drums and Mona Lindgren on bass.
Their hard rock is fun, they are experts on their instruments and wow, does Guernica, the vocalist have some pipes–she belts out every song with a perfect rock and blues voice! The band’s music reminds me of a cross between Motorhead, AC/DC and a little Def Leppard thrown in and they vibe with a distinct 70’s sound.
A few of my favorite songs on this album were: “Looks No Hooks” and “I Don’t Know You.” “Wasted” and “Watch Out” were fierce, heavy on the guitar and drums, with hooks at the chorus for singing along. The title song had some great vocalizations and guitar work.
Their tour announcement and ticket info is HERE and on the US leg of this tour, this band will be supporting the Scorpions and Whitesnake. This is the band to see live!
Rock at Night says: “I loved the retro sound of this rock band and every song on this latest album is great! After listening to the band’s last studio album “Heat Wave” and now this one, I am quite impressed. The accompanying video for “I Don’t Know You,” (embedded below) had some very clever animation and tells a story of touring musicians that just happen to be female. Loved it! Get your tickets early for the US part of their tour as they will probably sell out! We are waiting for even more from this band.”
