Review: Single-Already Dead’s “My Collar Is Blue” – Release date of full album – October 14, 2022
Punk rock and the working class go together like well, guitars and calluses. There’s some sort of venn diagram there, but I ain’t setting it up. Already Dead’s “My Collar Is Blue” takes on blue collar issues with a well constructed ode to the working class.
Already Dead is a Massachusetts punk trio so the strongest influences on this song seemed to be Irish punk like Flogging Molly or The Pogues, and they even threw in a mandolin section as a fun breakup to the song. The song feels really well put together, and the bass, drums, guitars, and vocals seem really singular. This is accentuated by the excellent punk chorus vocals, and especially when the vocals gain a little edge near the end.
I really enjoy Already Dead’s take on Irish punk, and love to see working class issues being taken on in punk music. “My Collar Is Blue” is a well produced, and well, shouted, ode to the working class.
