Review: Scotty Austin’s single-“Money”-Release date November 28, 2022 via Stryker Records
A point doesn’t have to be complicated to work. Farcical anti-capitalism songs aren’t a new concept, but Scotty Austin’s “Money” feels like a modern entry to the catalog that pulls flavors of the past.
Scotty Austin’s unworried approach to genre works well for this song, with the 90’s funky nu-metal groove sliding into something on the vibe of modern metalcore with triplets, synthetic bass and subtlety pitch-corrected vocals. It works well thematically, and never feels disjointed or self-serious.
I can’t say I was expecting a new rap-metal song in 2022, but Scotty Austin’s tongue in cheek single “Money,” really brings me back to the nu-metal mid 90’s with its messaging and funky bass sections.
“Money” was produced at Universal Music Group’s House of Blues studio in Nashville, Tennessee, by multi-platinum producer Malcolm Springer (Matchbox 20, Fear Factory, Collective Soul).
