Live Review: War On Women with Cancer Bats, Decent Criminal, and Spaced – The Saint-Asbury Park, NJ
War on Women came back to Asbury Park, NJ and performed at The Saint who has been hosting live original music for almost 3 decades but is in danger of closing their doors. This show which included the Cancer Bats, Decent Criminal and Spaced was a combined show that originally was to be held a few blocks away at Bond Street basement. The Saint has been operated shows with no alcohol as they presently have no liquor license. So it’s been a very weird vibe over the last few months but a show with no alcohol is better than no show at all.
The show opened up with a band Spaced from Buffalo, NY. A female fronted hardcore band that started off right in your face. They were the only band on the bill I haven’t seen or heard of and they definitely impressed me. Next up was Decent Criminal, a band that came down this way back in January for our Light of Day week who I really enjoyed. War on Women has been in Asbury Park before bu the last time was at the Asbury Park Yacht Club. They are an amazing band and incredibly nice people. They played a great set and the crowd showed them their love by screaming along and dancing. They are a great band to photograph as well, very animated on stage.
The Cancer Bats closed out the show with a bang. They have been around for a while. As a matter of fact I did a search on my page and realized I photographed them back 2009 I believe as part of the Taste for Chaos tour at Starland Ballroom. All in all it was a good show for a Thursday brisk cold night at a place that no one knows yet what the future holds, long live the Saint.
