Review: Marc Broussard – S.O.S. 4 – Blues For Your Soul album – Release date March 3, 2023
Every once in a while, music critics and reviewers speak about – blues revival. The question is, did blues go away at any point in modern music?
The answer is ‘no,’ it didn’t. It just might not have been the main focus at some point or other, but the true fans never forgot it and kept picking up on blues artists, new and old, all the time. Of course, particularly the good ones.
Considering the latter, it was no wonder that Louisiana guitarist/vocalist Marc Broussard quickly became a buzz name in blues fans’ circles, both for his outstanding guitar chips and equally good vocals.
Now, Broussard is back with S.O.S. 4 – Blues For Your Soul, his new album, released on Joe Bonamassa’s blues label.
Here, Broussard presents a short history of electric blues, but with that so-called ‘bayou soul’ twist, a mix of funk, blues, R&B, rock, and pop, matched with distinct Southern roots, as his P.R. rightfully notes. Essentially, it is a mix of Broussard’s southern soul vocals and a guitar style that combines the sound of three blues kings – B.B. King, Freddie King, and Albert King.
In just a few words – simply excellent blues.
