Review: Fences – Bright Soil – Release date: September 22, 2023

Christopher Mansfield, aka Fences, has been around for a while and has been wooing both reviewers and ever-growing number of fans with his songs that are always chock-full of melodies, vocal harmonies and detailed arrangements that range from power pop to full-on rock and never miss the point.

No exception to the rules Mansfield set himself on his latest album ‘Bright Soil,’ that just might be fully materialized one so far.

Doing something of a musical trick with the opener ‘Hell’ that starts like a prog rock theme and then turns into Fence’s recognizable melodic rock tune, he then keeps giving us some fully-formed songs full of great melodic lines and excellent arrangements in which he foils some hard-thinking lyrical themes that often have dark overtones.

Yet it all seems to be in full harmony (including the vocals) here, making sure that Mansfield has come up with another almost immaculate Fences album.
