Interview – SECOND HAND MOJO-October 2023
Rock At Night speaks with Detroit blues rock band Second Hand Mojo, who just released a feel good video for their single “Good Vibes.” With their 70s and 80s retro rock appeal, the band has opened for Jackyl, Sponge, Humble Pie, and Van GoGo to name a few. They will be performing on November 17th with Brother Cane and Orianthi and on December 8th with Robert Jon and the Wreck at the Token Lounge, Westland.
In this interview, Vern Springer and James Hampton of Second Hand Mojo discuss the origin of the band’s name; the band’s 70s sound and their admiration of ZZ Top and Boston; the ‘new’ classic rock sound; life during COVID; their comparison to Huey Lewis & the News (sans the sax); Wang Chung; their thoughts on touring; and the making of the video for “Good Vibes.”
Members of Second Hand Mojo include Vern Springer (guitar, vocals), Chuck Riepenhoff (lead vocals), Scott Brokaw (percussion, vocals), Marq “Q” Andrew Speck (keys, vocals), and James Hampton (bass, vocals).
