Review: Bill Greenberg – “When I’m Stronger”- Release date: June 14, 2024
It took alt-folk artist Bill Greenberg some 25 years to start releasing music again. Why he took the break might be an open question, possibly due to the fact that his album ‘Basic Tracks,’ released with aptly titled Bill’s Band didn’t garner as much attention as it should have.
The album itself recalled quite a few accomplished artists, from the quieter side of The Replacements, to Tom Waits and Neil Young.
Back in 2022, inspired by the Russia/Ukraine conflict, Greenberg released a his firs new single, simply titled ‘Ukraine.’ Two years on, Greenberg is back with another single, ‘When I’m Stronger.’
This time around, Greenberg tackles a more general theme of human condition. The song has some dark overtones, but Greenberg’s songwriting and delivery transcend the personal and make the song something quite a few listeners can relate to. Good to have him back.
