Review: Seafoam Walls’ – Standing Too Close to The Elephant in The Room – Release date: October 18, 2024
Pushing the boundaries into direction not taken too often can be a dangerous tactic if you are just guessing, instead of actually knowing what yo are doing.
That danger is even greater if you are trying to combine seemingly incongruous genres (and sub genres) as the Miami trio of Dion Kerr, Josh Ewers, and Josue Vargas that usually work as Seafoam Walls are attempting on their latest album ‘Standing Too Close To The Elephant In The Room.’
When committed to paper (or word processor, these days) it sounds quite incompatible – jazz pop played as shoegaze. To make something like that work, you have to really understand the genres you are trying to combine, and Seafoam Walls, instead of just forming something that will easily fall apart, as sea foam usually does, have truly come up with musical walls that work and are ultimately listenable.
