Review: Raudiver – Leave Before Dark- Release date September 13, 2024
Are you in for some nifty combination of goth and dream pop? If so, you just might not go wrong with the Houston, Texas duo Raudiver (pronounced raw-diver) and their latest release ‘Leave Before Dark.’
Both the name of the band and the album title Lauren Villareal Eddy and husband Charles Eddy could be indicators of the sounds to be found within.
The duo chose the band name as an homage to the work of parapsychologist and writer Konstantins Raudive, who wrote the definitive book on the phenomenon known as EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon), where the theory is that the voices of the dead can be picked up on radio frequency or microphone recordings.
And the studio they recorded the album in, a Victorian age studio in Galveston, Texas was probably also chosen to create a somewhat spooky, leave before dark atmosphere that permeates the 11 songs here.
Yet that ghostly atmosphere, dominated by Lauren’s vocals is not all slow dirge, as it is permeated by some nifty electro-beats, like on “Mary Beats” and “True Faith,” adding another dimension to the duo’s music.
If you missed this one for this year’s Halloween festivities, don’t worry, it can create that darkish atmosphere any night of the year.
