Live Review: Joss Stone at the MotorCity Casino’s Sound Board – Detroit – February 23, 2025

The Grammy-winning British soul singer Joss Stone brought her Less Is More tour to Soundboard inside Detroit’s MotorCity Casino on Sunday night. The minimalist setup allowed her soulful arrangements to shine, creating a deeply emotional and personal experience for those in attendance.
She opened the show shortly before 8 p.m. with a heartfelt rendition of “Pillow Talk”. She was accompanied by her longtime guitarist and musical director, Steven Down, as well as a cellist and three backing vocalists.
Joss’s setlist was a wonderful mix of originals and a few carefully chosen covers, including “Understand/ Less is More,” “Walk With Me,” and “Wildflowers,” a Tom Petty cover that showcased her ability to make any song one of her own. Stone’s connection with the audience was palpable as she shared stories behind her songs and engaged in casual conversations between performances, which helped to make it a night to remember for all who attended.
