Interview with Johnny McCuaig of Canadian rock band Arcana Kings – November 10, 2023
Rock At Night chatted with Johnny McCuaig, singer and bag pipe musician, of the Canadian band Arcana Kings. Being a fan of Australian band Brother and Celtic punk music, like Flogging Molly, we really wanted to know more about the band. I would describe their sound as “AC/DC with bag pipes.” Formed in 2015 in British Columbia, Canada, the band performs frequently in Vegas (over 100 shows logged) during March and is a popular attraction at Bike Week in Sturgis, South Dakota. They recently released a single “Soldier On” to honor those who serve in the Canadian Armed Forces. The charity with the same name helps veterans who have endured health issues.
In the interview, Johnny McCuaig discusses how bag pipes were incorporated into their rock music; the band’s Star Trek-themed video for their cover of Slade’s “Run Runaway”; the logistics of the band playing when there are 8 hours between them; Vegas gigs and Bike Week in Sturgis; their latest release “Soldier On,” which helps veterans; and the upcoming release “Kenistino.”
Band Members: Johnny McCuaig (vocals, bag pipes), James Picton (guitar), Allan Morrison (guitar), Kevin Kyle (bass), and Graham Templeman (drums).
