By Simon Shoulders, Rock At Night London Correspondent
Venue: O2 Islington, London-November 2, 2017
Madame Mayhem is a Rock At Night favorite whom we have been covering for a couple of years or so. We were able to catch up with May of Madame Mayhem at the O2 Islington, London, prior to the concert as support for Fozzy. They are touring Europe in support of their new release “Ready for Me” which was released on October 20, 2017 in the US under the HeadBall Records label and in the UK under the Metalville label. London correspondent Simon Shoulder covered the London gig and you can read about his experience below:
During the interview with the lovely Madame Mayhem, the sound recorder’s winking red light was desperately trying to tell me something. Something it thought was important….Even as the sound recorder continued in the futile attempts to communicate with it human (me), I was sharing a sweltering hot production office somewhere deep within the concrete bowels of the back stage area of the O2 in Islington with the lovely Madam Mayhem herself. We had a really interesting chat about her musical influences, working with rock legends, and the band’s pre-gig ritual before heading on stage. This, dear reader, is not the interview you’re about to listen to. That’s because the red light on the sound recorder was winking because I’d somehow managed to press “pause” as I put it down and only managed to record a whole 3 seconds of action before the interview began.
Indeed the interview you’re about to listen to only exists because Madame Mayhem is a) happy to share a laugh about my ineptitude ( and embarrassment) and b) is a true professional who’s happy to do a second take despite it getting close to show time. I hope you enjoy the interview as much as I enjoyed Madame Mayhem’s energy-filled set!
