THE TREATMENT gm COVER loRock At Night recently spoke with guitarist Tagore Grey of the critically acclaimed British hard rock group The Treatment. The Testment, which now features Mitchel Emms (vocals) and Tao Grey (guitars) in its new line-up, is creating a buzz in the wake of its third album Generation Me which will be released on March 18th. The band will be embarking on its UK tour in April with special guests, The Amorettes.

Highlights of the included various topics as Grey described the inception of the band in 2008 while band members were in their mid-teens. Dhani Mansworth (drums), with the guidance of his father veteran rocker/producer Laurie Mansworth, found other young lads who appreciate the classic rock sound and hungered for the “rock ‘n’ roll life.” From that point on, the band was a force to be reckoned with.

During the interview, Grey described the band’s experience of touring with legend rockers like Alice Cooper, Kiss, and Motley Crüe—who welcomed the band with open arms and took the band under their wings. Grey noted the spontaneity and excitement of touring was an adrenaline rush because of “not knowing where you will end up.” They traveled throughout most of America at the tender age of 18 and it was “the best experience ever”, noting “all of the Crüe and the whole company were amazing to us and accommodating. We loved it! We saw the whole country.”   The Treatment even made it to my stomping ground Florida and Grey promised, “We are definitely coming back…don’t worry!”

Rock At Night asked Grey about his opinion of American audiences. He said about being a support band, “When were were opening up for Kiss and Crüe, people were always there listening to us.” He described the American audiences as warm and welcoming, especially at the merch stands and signings.

Grey discussed some humorous and memorable experiences during the American tour (but you will have to listen to the audio for this). Let’s say, we discussed everything from chocolate-covered bacon to strippers.

Regarding the upcoming release of Generation Me, Rock At Night got insight on various album tracks, which in my opinion, is already off to being in my “Best of 2016” list. If you like classic 80s rock sound and feel-good music, this is for you. We will be releasing a full album review soon, so stay tuned.

Grey discussed the meaning behind the title of the album, saying “We feel we live in a sort of a generation where it’s all about being on the phone and all in your own world.” He discussed how the album reflects the band’s growth from “straight up rock ‘n’ roll” of the first two albums to something deeper and promised, “Rock isn’t king at the moment—but we are going to bring it back!” He explained the band has a new line-up, a new look, and they have matured.

When asked what his favorite song is on the album, Grey noted Let It Begin, which is really a balls-to-the-wall, high energy single in the album. When I first heard it, I felt it was in the vein of Sammy Hagar’s “I Can’t Drive 55” or Loverboy’s “Working for the Weekend”—fun, fun music with memorable sing-a-longs and notable lead guitar riffs.

We later discussed the band’s stage presence, which is pure rock entertainment, with leaps, jumps, growls, and sneers. He noted he is not angry but just has a lot of energy, “You want to see a guy out of control out there. You want a rock show to be crazy.” He later pointed out the band is “not having a cup of tea up there.”
